I really, REALLY wish that I could be an Athiest sometimes. I just don’t have the chutzpa. If I were, I am fairly certain that things would be so much easier and make so much more sense.

I am truly tired of this scenario. Beautiful young lady dead because some lowlife scumbag has a whole catalog of issues. Where and when is this scenario going to end? I know i am asking for the impossible but at some point you would think that warning signs would be there and many times they just aren’t. I guess this is what makes these tragedies as horrible as they are. Fate happens and somewhere somebodies number comes up. Well all i can say is life is precious so look alive out there people and keep your head in the game. You never know if this type of thing could happen to you and maybe just maybe if you are alert enough you can stay alive to finish out your life. More power to us all and i wish all the support and comfort to Annie’s family, fiance and friends in this very difficult time in their lives.

I’m not going to jump on the Hate Kanye West bandwagon. Im not saying that what he did was right. What im saying is that is that having lost a parent at a young age i can definitely relate to strange behaviour after the death of a parent. It was an unfortunate situation and i can see that Kanye is pretty embarrassed and somehow i think that Taylor is going to get over it. Off subject but more on my mind is the question of why does MTV even bother with the Video music awards? I mean honestly now, when was the last time that MTV even showed videos regularly. The whole idea of discovering a new artist because you saw their video on MTV is lost on a whole generation now. My sister is in this demographic and her idea of MTV is REAL WORLD reruns and the HILLS. Unlike many i have zero use for these shows. I remember when MTV first came on the air. I was in the first grade. It was awesome. It was not approved of by my parents and was definitely not allowed. So of course my friends and I made sure to watch it as often as possible. But hey i will stop digressing into sentimentality. My point is that MTV needs to get back to the basics. If videos are still worth an awards show then they are worth having a 24 hour video music channel that plays current videos on a rotation. Furthermore considering how the music industry is in such dire straits it would seem to me that NOW more than ever it would be a good idea for MTV to actually play some videos. I am wondering why this isn’t really crossing any network minds. Oh well just trying to help.

I realize that I am late in commenting on this but It just bugs the hell out of me and this is of course right on the heals of the Ryan Jenkins/Jasmine Fiore story. In addition we now have the Annie Le tragedy as well but I will comment further on her in a later post. Until these two later stories hit i was absolutely beside myself trying to figure out why a man would kill his wife, stuff her in a suitcase and then dump her into a bin like so much trash. I keep thinking to myself a simple question. Who wakes up in the morning and decides to kill their wife and stuff her in a suitcase?! But then this story about Jaycee Dugard and how she was abducted 18 years ago comes rolling in. Im not sure which is worse to be honest. Who would you rather be…Jasmine who is dead and her pain ultimately over or would you like to be Jaycee who was probably raped repeatedly for 18 years by a convicted sex offender
. Of course nobody would choose either but really now…which is worse?

The news keeps rolling in on the Caster Semenya gender issue and it keeps getting more and more convoluted. The officials of the IAAF are using language like whether her “conditions” accord her an advantage over other females?! What in the hell is that supposed to mean? How about being a superior athlete who has put in the hard work that it takes to win in today’s competitive sporting world? Is that one of the “conditions” that the IAAF is talking about?
Furthermore, IAAF general secretary Pierre Weiss went on to say that she was being tested because of “ambiguity”, not because we believe she is cheating.” Now this is where i take offense. Just because her particular brand of beauty doesn’t fit traditional stereotypes in SOME peoples minds is no excuse for this type of discrimination. In more than one place I see experts say that its a more complex issue than people think. At http://www.sportsscientists.com, Ross talks a lot about this. I think that the issue is a lot simpler than people make it out to be. Like many other people i don’t see psychological testing as being relevant in this. I also think that aside from tampering her body through steroids, hormones or other artificial or unnatural means she cannot be disqualified. In other words neither she nor anyone else should be disqualified based on their natural state. She is being judged an anomaly to the system and that is wrong. She has spent her whole life as a girl and aside from how she looks and runs she is a girl in every other way. Simple tests administered by a gynecologist and and other specialists in Sex determination should be sufficient to put this matter to rest.
Another issue that i am seeing here is the perceived incompetence of the ASA also known as Atheltics South Africa. The ASA is the organization that handles athletics for people in South Africa on the international level. Many have stated that the ASA was obviously wrong in bringing Ms. Semenya to the games as her female status was questionable. This just seems downright slanderous and libelous to be frank and one wonders whether or not this would even be put forward if a Western(white) run organization instead of an African(black) organization was in a similar situation. I think it is pretty obvious that if the ASA truly had any doubts that Ms.Semenya was a woman man they wouldn’t have allowed her to represent them. It truly smacks of a cultural misunderstanding that is based on perception. It seems to me that the ASA saw a talented young female runner who obviously deserved a spot on their national team and brought her to the games in the hopes that she would win glory for their nation just like everybody else.
In conclusion i have to say that yes we live in a world where men and women bend their gender everyday and make changes to themselves to fit their current lifestyles. However, this doesn’t mean that a Caster Semenya is one of these people. She is just a girl who wants to run and to be allowed to win if she comes in first. Is this so much to ask?
